5 Hints to Get a Salary Increase

You thought it must be extremely hard.  Well, stay calm, there are easy ways to get the increase.

Ka-ching!  This cashier machine may sound beautifully in your ears.  During weekend, you and your friends are going to a mall to find the most updated fashions and accessories.  While your friends are shopping, you may just wait.  This painful moment is not over yet, you are invited to your best friend’s wedding.  Poorly, you can only give a very simple present.  You feel so sorry, but whom to blame that their wedding is on “suffer” date?  It’s not that you can’t save, but living in these days does require a lot of money.  And your current income is only good to make you cry and feel that world is not fair!

Don’t complain or try to find another job in weekend newspaper ads yet.  If you do enjoy your job now, there is one best solution without moving to another one.  What else than asking for a salary increase!  Let’s find these 5 hints to make your dream come true.  Just cheer up!

  1. Make an Announcement
Thanks to hard work, you find a new and important client.  With an excellent time management, you finish all works with no extra time (means cost saving for the company).  If this is the real case, let your boss know your achievement.  How?  Definitely not in a presentation during a meeting or in a way that make your colleague get upset.  On the contrary, simply tell your boss that your client is completely satisfied with the result of your work.  Next, make some arrangement that your client may be able to compliment your work directly to your boss.  Surely your boss will agree to raise your paycheck.

  2. Get Closer!
It is clear that you are not in the same position as your boss.  But it doesn’t mean that you need to create some distance with him/her.  Having a good and close relationship with him or her has many advantages. You have to ensure that your boss always remember you.  One way is to start a talk about works when you meet him.  Giving some  complimentary to his success will be a good strategy as well.  Just remember, stay away from personal or sensitive topics.

  3. Always Cheer Up!
An impossible assignment from your boss?  Keep smiling!  Save your complains and keep doing your best.  Just think that it is a challenge for you.  Keep showing your enthusiasm and spirit up.  Beside, it could be a good test to your competency.

  4. Which One is More Important?
Each manager has priorities.  It is your job to find out and contribute to it.  For example,  he may prefer to finish the works on time rather than a superb but overdue.  The result is perfect, but it’s not what he wants.
Next, don’t ever tell your boss that you have worked hard all this time.  Just show your efforts and professionalism.  It includes little details that your boss expects.  Guarantee that you will get a bonus point with this smart move.

  5. Control your Emotion.
Boss mostly prefers staff who can make everything easy and stay calm during working.  It doesn’t mean that you don’t take the job not seriously.  Try to stay calm when doing your job.  If there were an accident that make you upset, hold yourself.  Don’t lose control of your emotion.  Just take a deep breath and release it slowly.  Then, off you go.  This will show that you can control yourself and you can work well in a team.

Special Note !!!
Get yourself loaded before asking a salary increase to your boss!

  • Find out the company performance.  It is useless to ask an increase while the company performance is going down.

  • How much should your salary be?  Do some research, asking your friends who has similar position or work.

  • Don’t feel hopeless if your boss refuses to raise your salary.  It may be a time to find a new job.  Who knows that your boss may change his mind and then offer you a big increase at once!

Story is excellent. It brings out many good points, all of which are well worth reading carefully.

But, the writer’s English is poor, and it does take something away from the article. I see this all the time, and it is a sad indicator of where America is going - down.
