Healthy Consumption of Preservative
Pack food and fast food are easy. However, this instant food must have preservative. Is it safe? Let’s take a look.
Watch the ingredient and dosage.
Fresh food can be consumed after cooked without any preservatives. But this wouldn’t happen if the food still needs to be distributed. Preservatives are added so that food can be kept for certain period of time. In food industry, various preservatives are used, depend on the food type and it is packed. Good news is packing becomes easier. You won’t need to prepare various spices to cook and more important is the food can be kept for sometime. The problem is, is it healthy to consume such food? The truth is we don’t need to worry about the safety of this food. The importance is to watch the ingredient and dosage.
The use of over dosage of preservatives must bring some effects for long term use. It is actually easy to recognize that the food becomes less tasty, like more bitter and astringent. Worse case is some producers use prohibited chemicals, for example formalin. No matter how small the dosage is, it is not good for health.
When you buy instant food in a supermarket, don’t forget to check the expiration date and ingredients.
Examine during shopping
If you still enjoy shopping in a traditional market, then be careful. There are many cases that they put unapproved, dangerous preservatives. So, examine carefully before buying. If the food looks stiff, too chewy and fresh, then you must be very careful. There is a possibility that they put dangerous preservatives inside.
Preservative-free
In the middle of all instant food, sometimes you may find some food or drinks with label “no preservatives”. Most of the time, people will think that it is better without preservatives that in fact, they are just about the same. Actually, food labeled without preservatives had been through preservation process i.e. pasteurization or ultra high temperature. As a result, the price of the product is high due to high technology processing. These products have no side effects when the sterilization process is correct. Usually, they are safe for about 1 year if the pack remains unopened. However, if you have opened the package, then the drink or food must be kept in refrigerator and may stay for another week at most.
