You Can Be Happy Without Having the Perfect Body
“You don’t need the perfect body to be happy. It doesn’t make you a better person”
Women get messages from the media that say in order to be happy, to be loved, you have to be beautiful-with a body to match. That’s a myth. You set yourself up for trouble if you believe it.
Here are some tips on how you can make peace with your body.
- Remember that a great body is no guarantee of love or happiness. Many attractive people are actually very unhappy. There are many beautiful people who don’t have happy marriage. Or if they’re single, they have difficulty forming good relationships with others.
- Focus on your own best features. You may have a wonderful smile, sparkling eyes or a great sense of humor. Concentrate on these traits whenever you begin to worry about figure flaws.
- Realize that your self-esteem is the basis of your attractiveness. People wholike themselves radiate a positive spirit which makes them truly attractive. Your self-esteem results primarily from the messages you give yourself. If you put yourself down a great deal, you’re going to be depressed, unhappy and have low self-esteem. So Build up your self-esteem by learning to think of yourself in a more positive and compassionate manner. Substitute positive, self-accepting thought for negatives ones. As you develop better self-esteem, you’ll feel more attractive – and others will see you that way.
- Give up the attitude: “I must have a perfect body.” Once you do, you’ll be free of tension and anxiety – and you’ll be much happier and content with yourself.
- Be as kind to yourself as you are to others. Don’t have a cruel, harsh standard for yourself and a loving, compassionate one for others. Treat yourself in the same way you would treat other people. That means being kind to yourself. If you find it difficult, practice.
